Prudence
These seven paintings can function apart or as a whole. I tend to get fixated on a singular object that, I later find out, represents that moment in my life. An object used to warn or signal drivers to be cautious and pay attention. These paintings were made over a time in my life when I was trying to make a difficult decision which came with emotional stress. Playing around with the physics of the traffic cone provided some mental relief, as well as this very metaphoric object to represent how I was feeling - cautious.
Traffic Cone - a plastic cone-shaped object that is used to separate off or close sections of a road.

I Don’t Know Where I am Going
The title of this is pretty self explanatory. I envisioned this painting for a long time, and when I finally set down to paint it, I realized its significant meaning to my own life. I had no idea where I was going. For me, that was a scary thought. As someone who likes direction, my interest in road signs and travel align with that part of me. For once, I had no classes to take or assignments to follow, and I was lost. I still feel this way, and through this imagery I began to feel more comfortable with not knowing.

These small paintings function as one in telling the story of “me getting better at painting”. Following previous themes, the use of the stop lights provided me a situation in which I could use more “from the tube” paints, but also allowed me to push my skills in painting and further my understanding. These paintings were displayed as part of my graduating show.
