“Rule 7 : The only rule is work. If you work it will lead to something. It’s the people who do all the work all the time who eventually catch onto things.”

-Sister Corita Kent

Having a sketchbook has become an integral part of my practice. It developed quickly in my undergrad, becoming a source of class notes, project ideas, and intimate writings. It has carried over into my post-grad life. It is somewhere I can let loose and be free. My practice is very personal and is my way of processing, finding, and developing my own emotions and reactions. Without some sort of art practice, I think I would feel very frustrated and distant from the people close to me. This way of working has allowed me to get close to the ones I love, by expressing and releasing emotions through art rather than through encounters. Having a constant source of paper allows me to open up without feeling embarrassed or ashamed.I am able to break down this wall that I think is easier for other people

The wall of vulnerability.
